I made my last shopping trip of the year on New Year’s Eve.  I had a number of coupons that were due to expire that day and I tried to use as many as possible w/o breaking my budget.

I did three transactions because I was using a lot of coupons. I have found that when I am using a lot of coupons there are less mistakes with my coupons and any mistakes that are made are easier to catch.   I had to make my bi-weekly baby purchases so that always drives up my bottomline. Otherwise, I think I got some pretty good deals.

I had a pretty uneventful shopping trip this week. The cashier tried to tell me that “one per purchase” meant I could only use one coupon per transaction, but after I explained the difference, she grudgingly scanned all my coupons.  I am so tired of the “purchase vs. transaction” debate.  I didn’t purchse a lot because they didn’t have my daughter’s formula and a couple of other items  on my shopping list.  It was still a good trip.

Target’s registers are so wonky that half of the time I can’t understand their savings calculations.  I am going to list my out-of-pocket costs and savings according to my calculations.

Total product value=$40.25    Total OOP  cost=$8.41 including tax       Total Saved=$31.84 or 79%

Bath and Body Works has been putting out some really good coupons lately.  One of the best is the “Buy any item and get a free travel size item.”  They have also been issuing coupons for  free 2 oz. samples of their new fragrance  The newest fragrance is Secret Wonderland.  I had a coupon for a free bottle, but unfortunately when I  went shopping, I  left the coupon at home (arghhhhh).

I am also on BBW’s mailing list and they sent me two coupons for two free travel size items (no purchase necessary).  I found out from the  cashier that the company made a mistake with coupons, but they still honored them both.    So, despite the forgotten coupon I still managed to snag 6 travel size items for $2.65  including tax.

Transaction #1

  • 2 oz. Secret Wonderland lotion-$1.00 sale price (reg. $3.50)
  • 3 oz. Orange Sapphire lotion-$5.00
    • used BOGO coupon
  • 3 oz. Orange Sapphire body wash-$5.00
    • used free item coupon
  • Total $1.06 including tax

Transaction #2

  • 1 oz. White Citrus hand sanitizer
  • 3 oz. White Citrus Lotion
    • used BOGO coupon
  • 3 oz. White Citrus body wash
    • used free item coupon
  • Total $1.59 includdng tax

Total Value=$25.00  Total Savings=$22.50  Total Savings=90%

Of course, they sent me home with another coupon, although it is not nearly as good as the ones I used. There is also a coupon attached to the bottle of Secret Wonderland that I had to purchase  instead getting it for free.  (Darn that forgotten coupon)

***UPDATE*** Check out the video for this trip here.

I am continuing my  posts about my holiday weekend shopping trips.  Walmart used to be my go-to store for bargain shopping especially for groceries and baby items. Over time I noticed that their prices were often being matched by Target and Meijer, so that increased my shopping options.

Once I started supercouponing ( The act of using coupons to such an extreme level that it enables you to shop and purchase items for very cheap or free.) I learned that shopping at Walmart was not the best store for me to get the biggest bang for my grocery bucks. Unfortunately, Walmart does not double coupons (like Meijer) and they do not have store coupons that can be gloriously stacked for amazing savings (like Target and Meijer).

I now only shop at Wal-Mart when I have coupons that are best used there or I need to purchase items that I do not have and will not be able to get a coupon for.  Therefore, I only shop there once every 6-8 weeks.  I have to admit though, I always feel a bit nostalgic whenever I go to there.  I really used to be in love with Wal-Mart, but alas I am more coupon savvy now and I must go where the deals take me. 🙂

Now on to the shopping details.

I started uploading videos to You Tube in May and I am happy to say that I am enjoying every minute of it. In my videos, I have shared my coupon binder, my shopping trips and all of the freebies I receive in the mail everyday. It is so much fun to be able to share my deals and money-saving tips with so many people.

I have met some great people in the YT community.  While it is unlikely that I will ever meet most of these people, I have found them to be some of the most caring, inpirational, encouraging and supportive people I have ever met.  I never would have thought I could get addicted to the YT, but I have. LOL.

I recently reached 100 subscribers. You can view the video here.  To celebrate I am about to have my first giveaway.  I am really excited and I have been thinking hard trying to decide what the rules should be and more importantly what the  prizes should be.  After much thought, I am finally ready. I will be uploading that video later today.
